Palio Dinner Plate, The Unicorn

These bowls are a celebration of the Palio—a wild and intoxicating horse race that takes place in the main piazza of Siena, Italy. Each piece displays a symbol that correlates to one of the teams, based on the different districts in the city.

Leocorno (The Unicorn): Traditionally Leocorno residents were goldsmiths. Leocorno’s allies are Pantera and Tartuca. Its rival is Civetta (since 1960). Their motto is: “La mia purezza è uguale al braccio che ho in faccia” – “My purity is equal to the arm that I’ve got in face”
